マザー・テレサにあるインタビュアーがこう問うた。

「本当にあなたのやっている方法で人々を救えるんでしょうか？」

すると彼女は間髪を容れず返した。

「昨日は過ぎ去った。明日はまだ来ていない。そして私はここにいて、あなたといましゃべっている」

ある種の人はこれを禅問答のように、あるいははぐらかしとして見てとるだろう。

インタビュアーの問いには、どこにもいない仮想された他人の経験との比較を通じた正しさが、いまここにいる私を離れ、客観的なものとして存在するという考えに基づいている様が見て取れる。

インタビュアーは想定の話をしている。マザーテレサはリアルタイムの話をしている。
