　カナダの老夫婦が宝くじで約１１２０万ドル（約９億円）の大当たり。ところが「余計なお金はいらない」とほとんどを寄付したことが分かり、大きな話題になっている。地元メディアなどが４日報じた。

　老夫婦はカナダ東部のノバスコシア州に住む元溶接工のアレン・ラージさん（７５）と妻のバイオレットさん（７８）。ことし７月、４９個の数字から６つを選ぶ宝くじが大当たり。

　ところがラージさん夫妻は「旅行好きでも、夜遊び好きでもない」とほとんどを寄付することを決断。「万が一の時のために」と２％（約１８００万円）を貯金した上で、残りはバイオレットさんががんの手術を受けた病院、赤十字、地元の教会、消防などに寄付した。

　ラージさんは「もともと金持ちじゃないし、退職後の蓄えも十分。これまでのつましい生活で幸せ」と淡々としている。
